PropScore Methodology

How we rank >50 prop trading firms — transparent, data-driven, updated in real time.

What is PropScore?

PropScore is our proprietary algorithm that rates prop trading firms on a 0–100 scale. It measures value for the trader — how much you get for your money, how reliable the firm is, and how good the trading conditions are.

Every score is calculated in real time from our database. When a firm changes its pricing, profit split, or rules, the PropScore updates automatically.

Our Philosophy

  • Data over opinions. Every criterion is quantifiable and sourced from firm data.
  • Trust is #1. Health Score (payout reliability) carries the highest weight at 25%.
  • No pay-to-play. Firms cannot pay to improve their PropScore. Affiliate partnerships don't affect rankings.
  • Real-time updates. Scores recalculate live — no stale monthly reports.

The 7 Scoring Criteria

Each firm is scored on 7 weighted criteria. The total always adds up to 100 points maximum.

💰

Best Price (50K Account)

20%

We look at the cheapest plan in the $25K–$75K account range. Lower entry cost means better value. A $20 plan scores perfectly; $500+ scores near zero.

📈

Profit Split

20%

Maximum profit split offered across all plans. The 70–100% range is scored linearly — 100% split earns full marks, 70% earns zero.

🛡️

Health Score (Trust & Reliability)

25%

Our pre-calculated Health Score reflects payout reliability, community sentiment, Trustpilot ratings, regulatory signals, and operational stability. This is the single largest factor because a firm that doesn't pay is worthless regardless of terms.

✍️

Editorial Score

10%

Our team's manual assessment covering factors that algorithms miss: quality of support, rule clarity, platform UX, and how the firm treats traders in edge cases.

📅

Minimum Trading Days

10%

Fewer required trading days means faster path to payout. 0 days scores perfectly, 30+ days scores zero. We use the most flexible plan available.

🖥️

Trading Platforms

10%

Number of supported platforms (NinjaTrader, Rithmic, Tradovate, etc.). More platform choice = more flexibility for traders. 2+ platforms earn full marks.

📊

Max Funded Accounts

5%

How many accounts you can run simultaneously. 20 accounts = perfect score. More accounts means more scaling potential for consistent traders.

Health Score: How We Measure Trust

The Health Score is our proprietary trust metric that combines multiple signals:

  • Payout reliability — verified payout reports and community feedback
  • Trustpilot rating — weighted by review count and recency
  • Community sentiment — Discord and social media monitoring
  • Operational stability — uptime, rule changes, and platform issues

A firm can have great pricing and splits, but if the Health Score is low (indicating payout problems or trust issues), the PropScore will be significantly impacted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can firms pay to improve their score?

No. PropScore is entirely data-driven. Affiliate partnerships and advertising have zero impact on rankings.

How often do scores update?

Scores are calculated in real time on every page load. When we update firm data (pricing, splits, health checks), the score changes immediately.

Why does Health Score weigh so much?

Because the best terms in the world are worthless if the firm doesn't pay. Trust is the foundation — everything else is secondary.

What about crypto prop firms?

The same algorithm applies. Crypto firms are scored identically to futures firms — same 7 criteria, same weights.
